Elizabeth (nee Mitchell) and Eli Allen
In 1862, Eli Allen (husband of Elizabeth the only surviving daughter of John and Mary Mitchell) was bought out of the Mitchell family partnership. He was paid ₤300 following a deed of conveyance dated 16 July 1862 for his share of the land. In 1862, his occupation was given as firewood dealer.

Eli and Elizabeth Allen
Eli and Elizabeth purchased section 50 on the Porirua Road at Tawa Flat early in 1864 and took up farming. Their homestead was at the foot of the hill near the north corner of McLellan and Hinau Streets. Maori would sometimes visit clad only in a mat or old blanket, and would roast birds on the farmhouse fire.
In the 1880s, Eli and Elizabeth retired and moved into town to Ghuznee Street.
